how do you accept the challenge?

last October 3, 15 college bands coming from different key cities of Mindanao put on their best suit, banged their heads, and scream their guts out for the 5th installment of the Nescafe 3n1 Soundskool!

ever since it’s first installment in 2004, it has never failed to launch neophyte band’s careers and spring it become household name status. Bands duch as Hilera and Letter Day Story are products of this annual, inter-collegiate band competition, that is highly supported by the Commission of Higher Education, among others.

after an hour of two of rock and roll entertainment, the Nescafe People formally announced the three bands who will be joining the roster of finalists for a special mentoring and workshop classes which are to be held – in all places (in a good way of saying it) – BORACAY! then they will be competing some time this year where they can have the chance to win 250,000 pesos and 100,000 pesos worth of musical instruments for their school, and a management contract under Sony Music Philippines. the three finalists are:

EEVEE of Philippine Women’s College / Davao

Disco! Disco! Disco! of St. Michael’s College of Iligan City

she is bravely referring to what Ondoy has brought us. funny, her statement is. insensitive and plain dumb, like, literally and figuratively. buti na lang talaga youre in Dubai, because if you are somewhere else in the Philippines, you are going to be eaten alive. by ‘sinners’, no less. hmm come to think of it, your fellow Pinoys will hunt you there and bury you alive somewhere on the vast desert, where you can have unlimited sands to munch on. buti na lang im hir in da philippines!

it is alright if you have a bone to pick on some politicians (i mean knock yourself out), but wishing for bad things to your fellow Filipinos is just as distasteful as your ‘kolehiyala’ tone and txt speak. congratulations! you are now an instant hit. sad though you have just earned a spot next to Malu Fernandez. give Ms. Piggy a hug!!! she is not alone anymore..

well. ive been busy (read: lazy) these days, and i ran out of interesting stories to tell. yeah, that’ how uninteresting bitter people are. lolz

well so what’s up with me? ive never been bitter lately. just a few times, but ever since i underwent an anger management session, i always equate a slap in my face as God’s little blessing for me.

so i let my friend do the bittering. lolz. presenting…. ANDRES. here is a post from his blog. read on.

Hating-gabi.

Abala na naman kami ni Jose sa harap ng computer nang marinig namin ang tunog ng paa ni Sisa sa ikalawang palapag. Sa nangyaring trauma sa kanya nung unang laban, bigla siyang kinabahan at ‘di mapakali sabay bulong kung okay lang ba na nandirito siya.

Panatag akong nasermonan na si Sisa ni Kikay dahil binalitaan ko sa nangyari nung unang laban. Akala ko, alam na niya na tumatambay na naman si Jose sa bahay at binalewala na lamang niya ito. Pero mali, nagliparan ang mga gamit habang pasigaw na pinapaalis si Jose. Hindi agad tumayo si Jose dahil nabanggit ko na sa kanya kung ano ang gagawin pag nagkatopak na naman itong si Sisa. Panatag ako at palaban sa mga naihanda kong mga salawikain at salaysay ngunit sadyang napakunat at makapal mukha itong si Sisa at patuloy pa rin sa pagpapalayas sa kawawa kong kaibigan.

Madalang lang akong nagsalita at halos naka mute volume na yung boses ko sa una kaya hindi siguro narinig yung mga sinasabi ko at patuloy ang mga pagtapon ng masasamang salita sa akin na kasing-tunog ng “makapal ang mukha”, “layas”, at “tapon”.

Malala na itong si Sisa. Di nakakapagtataka na sa aming magkakapatid, sa kanya yung tronong “psycho” at sa akin naman yung “kiko” dahil namana ko yata yung katangian ng erpat ko na pang-kapayapaan! Ito ang gusto ko!

Mahilig magtapon ng bagay itong si Sisa lalo na pag galit. Umakyat na siya at panay bato ko pa rin sa kanya ng mga mapatalinghagang salita na kasingtunog ng “psycho” at “mukhang pera”. Naka volume 11 na yung boses ko nun. Sa may hagdanan, nailagan o kaya’y ‘di tumama sa akin yung basurang itinabi niya sa may hagdanan. Bumalik na ata siya sa kuarto at ako nama’y nabitin sa mga naiwang punchlines at ‘di mapakali dito sa baba.

Nang marinig ko ang yapak niya pababa ng hagdanan, ‘di ko na sinayang yung pagkakataong batuhin ko siya ng tinapay ngunit ako’y parang bato na hindi niya nakita sabay kuha sa may kabinet at itinapon ang kanyang sirang digital camera sabay sabi “bayaran mo yan!”

Nag-kabatuhan kami nang mga salita at tulad ng dati, ‘di na namin marinig yung mga boses maliban lamang sa mga salitang katunog ay “layas”, “pera”, “psycho” at “tapon”. At naging tahimik uli ang buong mansyon.

Tinawagan ko si Yoyong, na kasalukuyan ay nasa aming bukirin, at ikinuwento sa kaniya ang nangyari. Ganun din, binalita ko si Kikay pagkatapos sa ilang minutong pagsubok na tawag sa Skype ay pumalpak pa yata itong kanyang telepono at nagkalowbat kaya nung pag-uwi na lang niya kami nagkausap.

Saan kaya hahantong ang labanang ito? Lalabas na kaya ang Hadoken ko o mauuna pa muna si Son Goku?

Kagay-an Fiesta 2009 may be a bit blah (for me) and an emergency room case for others, but I have witnessed some of the even so let me play your very own, non-official CDO guide to some  of the events of the fiesta. also, since it was a generally a disaster (thank you, promoteCDO), you definitely need a CDO guide because you might be lost in it. hehe

Street Dancing contest – it started out really early and I did not go because it was just too early. And boy, am I glad I did not go. first of all, street dancing with only 4 participants. what’s that, semifinals? also, my friends told me that the contestants performed as if they had only practiced for 5 hours before the event. and the heck, the judges gave them [the contestants] some tongue lashing and spanking. how cool is that, eh? so do you want to CDO guide it?

Miss Kagay-an 2009 – of all the happenings on Atty Magman’s CDO guide to Kagay-an Fiesta, this show is one of the better, if not the best one. people, made up of supporters, media people, pageant addicts, and celebrities (konti lang kaming celebrities lolz) made ‘dumog’ around the LimKetKai Atrium to witness who will bring home the crown and the hearts of the people. 15 ladies made their mark with the usual “world peace” vibe. and, of course, it is not a beauty pageant if it doesn’t have the “bloopers”, courtesy of the candidates themselves. sucks for you, i digress. lolz

Float Parade – let this CDO Guide to Kagay-an Fiesta take you to the Float Parade. it happened again in the morning, so i was not there.instead, i tuned in to TV it started around 8 and ended up almost 11am. several floats paraded around the city. the floats, i must say, were fabulous!

GMA Kapuso Mall Show – they said it’s going to start at 12nn. SO FILIPINO of them. and local media people were not allowed to get near the stage. i took off long before the show even started. around 5pm.

Doodlie Woodlie from Spruce- a very creative and ‘wow’ inducing yet silent activity that some CDO Guide did not know happened at the 2nd level of LimKetKai Mall. A contribution from Spruce, a portion of the wall was being doodled up by some of CDO’s visual artists. A beautiful mural-like creation with a festive theme was done by Bon Aserios, Steph, Fourth Legara, and *friend*.

Kapamilya Caravan – if there’s an affair of the ‘heart’, there should also be a ‘family’ affair. The event, courtesy of the Kapamilya Network, happened in SM City Cagayan de Oro. This event should be put into CDO guide list, as the caravan included hunky John Lloyd Cruz, virginal Maricar Reyes, and a very unknown band named Rivermaya on the show.

Manny Villar and Willie Revillame show – ok. next.

Fireworks Competition – this is the last on the list of CDO Guide to Kagay-an Fiesta. I was not there but people enjoued the show. but what it made more “talk about town” is that after the show there weren’t any meanns of transportation. so hundreds of people paraded down from SM to Carmen. now that is sacrifice.

So okay that is it for this CDO Guide to Kagay-an Fiesta. It is a shame that it’s not really as happening, but oh well. till next year i guess. i hope next year it would be a better, more fun CDO guide list.

in his most daring role....

the current Philippines is a mess, figuratively and literally. the country that was once dubbed as the “Pearl of the Orient” has perhaps been pawned and left to deteriorate its value. our very own and unique flora and fauna are slowly bidding us goodbye and still we are busy paving paradise out. pollution we can see, smell, feel, and sometimes taste, yet people still do not value the importance of proper rubbish disposal. the economy is wailing down, we can only buy less necessities, but even then,people still fuck like rabbits and populate like cockroaches and blame the government as to why they are hungry. and do i really have to say anything about the government?

a very famous educator slash doctor once said that the youth is the hope of the nation.but in this highly “updated” world, the so called ‘youth’ are highly distracted by modernization and pop culture, that they began to forget what are their responsibilities for the future of this country, even responsibilities for themselves. technology, pseudo-high status, ease of access to virtually everything, Gossip Girl even, are just some of the things that kids nowadays consider “extremely important”. for most of them, they would rather want to know if Sam dating Piolo is a fact. bottomline: they are not aware, and they don’t give a damn.

and if this problem would continue, then, in the near future, elections would just be one big silent occassion, like watching a very bad movie in IMAX. scary, right?

thankfully though, i am not the only one who feels this way. and it is also great that some do something about it.

ABS-CBN’s “Boto Mo Ipatrol Mo” campaign’s aim is to make people participate in poll watching, better and more exciting than any Koreanovelas. it is not new to us that election fraud and cheating here in the Philippines is as obvious as Lady Gaga’s dangling genital. This way, at the very least, election will be watched by thousands of pairs of eyes and, with the aid of technology, news will be so fast that it would get there before you can say “Shet, wala na akong load!”.

“Register and Vote”is another noble campaign spearheaded by Senator Kiko Pangilinan and his outstanding posse composed of Rep Teddy Locsin, Rissa Hontiveros – Baraquel among others. the campaign is also supported by various groups such as Noli Benavent’s NO TO CONASS. just like “Boto Mo”, its mission is to make people go to election stations (or whatever you call it). but it’s main goal is to create awareness to youth that voting is one of the most important things that they can do to help this country. so what could be a better way to inject it to today’s youth but to rock it out with music. Just recently (ok, sooo last month), the Register-and-Vote team arrived in our city to bring “Rock the Vote”, a free concert held in the Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan Gymnasium. Thousands of college students gathered, as they witness several local and Manila based performers and bands strummed their beats and headbanged like they have a snake on their heads. Although it was a great night, the important thing is that youth had their dose of knowledge or two about the upcoming elections and the next ones to come. here’s the thing: although I don’t know if this is Kiko’s way of saying “I am soo running”, but it is okay. at least it is a much more noble way of saying it, rather than seeing politicians vying for presidency on TV, displaying their acting chops, feigning compassion and thoughtfulness, dance in a very hideous fashion, and use millions of money (personal or otherwise).

if this blog has not changed your mind about voting or moved you, then I don’t know what is. but if it has, then you still have a good amount of time to go register for the upcoming hullaballoola that is the Philippine Presidential Elections. oh, and please, do not vote for losers.
